College Student Credit Card Information:
Getting a credit card while you are a college student "may" be a good idea. There are many student credit cards
available and it's easy to fill out online credit card applications. First consider the some of the advantages and student credit cards disadvantages. Some advantages are that you learn money management skills and build your credit. However a disadvantage is that if you are not responsible you may get too deep into debt.
If you decide to get a first or additional credit card, it is important to build good credit. Much can be said about building good credit and being responsible with your credit cards, but we will not go into depth. To keep it simple, while using your credit cards do not take on more debt than you can handle and make your payments on time. Also ideally you will want to pay your credit card balance in full each month or at least pay more than the minimum payment. If you are a parent it is recommended you discuss responsible credit card use with college students.
